I was born and raised in Kitchener Ontario Canada. I have two of the most wonderful parents any kid could ever ask for. They supported everything I do and there is no amount of thanks I could give for the life they provided for me.
Unfortunately, I lost my Mother to cancer in May 2010. She was my best friend and more importantly my teacher. She taught me that life wasn’t easy but you can’t sweat the small stuff. She believed anything was possible and I dedicate my work to her.
I married my husband, my best friend, Trevor in May 2010. Together we have spent the last five years doing as much traveling as we can handle (or afford!). When I first met Trev, in 2007, I had hardly been anywhere. He opened my eyes to the world and since then we’ve traveled to places I never deemed possible, like Tahiti, my life-long dream destination and a huge tick off my bucket list!
It was when we first started traveling that I first picked up a camera. I started taking pictures on our travels and experimenting with different perspectives and details. The feedback from family and friends was increasingly positive; a few even asked me to do a few specialty shoots at their weddings or small family photos. Now I am so proud to say, that the support and encouragement from those people have brought me to where I am today: an independent photographer shooting full weddings, family portraits, and other fun concepts like maternity and boudoir!
Now a little bit about my style, I first of all love the candid shots and whenever I’m shooting an event I try to get as many as possible. As wonderful as the candid shots are, I think it is equally important to make sure there is a good mix of staged and detail orientated shots as well. On your wedding day especially, you have to feel a little bit like a celebrity. Everyone including me, will ask you to “pose for a picture”. These staged shots are never very formal. I wait for the moment when everyone is together, laughing and brewing good energy, then ask for the shot.
Right now, I am concentrating on networking, building my portfolio and exploring photography to the depths! I’m open to trying anything new, I like to take my time and have fun with my clients. Future goals of mine are to shoot a wedding in Europe, go on a National Geographic photo expedition to Oaxaca Mexico, try underwater photography, get published (in any print form… one cannot be picky), get my ultralight pilots licence (bet you didn’t see that one coming), find an incredible life story to document… All very possible things!
All in all, what I really want is for people to enjoy my work as much as I do. I love doing this and that’s what matters most to me. Checkout “my favorite things” page to learn a little more about me and if so inclined, send me your feedback, I’d love to hear what you think!
Thanks so much, Catherine
